A 22 year old man from Hounslow has been jailed for four years for a drug offence and other crimes.
Albjon Metlekaj of the High Street in Hounslow was jailed at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday 31 October and disqualified from driving for three years and nine months after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs, dangerous driving and escaping lawful custody.
On 5 July 2025, officers from the Sentinel West team encountered a black Audi A7 with intelligence linking it to the supply of controlled drugs in Suffolk.
The subject vehicle was sighted by officers in Newmarket where it failed to stop when requested. It was pursued by police, during which it was driven dangerously.
During the pursuit, the subject vehicle collided with a member of the public’s car causing minor damage and narrowly avoided a collision with a pedestrian. It was soon safely stopped by officers and Metlekaj, who was also found to be unlicenced and uninsured, was arrested. During the pursuit, a bag was thrown out of the vehicle. This was later recovered and found to contain around 250 press seal bags of cocaine with an estimated street value of £12,500. Forensic evidence on the packaging later linked Metlekaj to the drugs. He required hospital treatment and was transported to hospital where he managed to evade the escorting officers. Following an extensive area search, he was re-arrested eight hours later.
PC Mike Spurling from the Sentinel team in the west said: “It is very satisfying to see these harmful substances removed from our streets with Metlekaj being detained, prosecuted, and sentenced for his crimes. It was only by pure luck that nobody was injured by Metlekaj’s dangerous driving. This sends out a very clear message that we will pursue and robustly deal with individuals that are involved in organised criminality. Metlekaj will now spend a significant amount of time in prison to reflect on his actions.”
The arrest and investigation was led by the Sentinel West Team. The three Sentinel teams across the South, West and Eastern areas of the county provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk’s road network to proactively disrupt serious and organised criminal activity as well as increase police visibility. The mobile unit disrupts criminals and protects communities across Suffolk’s road network using a variety of techniques to deal with offenders involved.
